Onoh for burial today *Police deploy 500 Mopol

ENUGU—THE remains of the former Governor of the old Anambra State , Chief Christian Onoh, who passed on May 5, this year will be interred at his Ngwo country home today.

The Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime and his colleagues from the South East Zone had agreed to accord the late statesman a state burial.

The first Republic Governor of the old Anambra State , Senator Jim Nwobodo, who is heading the burial planning committee, said all necessary arrangements for the funeral of Onoh had been concluded, expressing the hope that the event would be hitch-free.

The police said yesterday that it has beefed up security in Ngwo, to ensure hitch free funeral for the late Governor.  Spokesman for Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebele Amaraizu, said that the Commissioner of Police, who happen to be the chairman of Security Committee for the event had released an operational order for the burial.

He said that over 500 mobile policemen have been drawn from Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Imo states squadrons to argument the force on ground, adding that the mobile policemen have since been mobilized to various areas where the funeral activities would take place to maintain law and order.

As part of the programmes lined up for the burial, an exhibition on the life of Onoh and a public lecture were held in his honour in Enugu yesterday.

In a farewell message to the former Governor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Enugu State Chapter led by Mr. Vita Abba, said it was in deep grief over the death of “this great man, whose life of service had been a source of inspiration to many and an enduring front for the emancipation of the entire Igbo race, most especially the WAWA people from injustice and political imbalance.”

    it is indeed a great loss to such an Icon.He fought his fight and finish his race may God grant him eternal rest.I still wonder why 500 mopols for CC so mopols work have been converted for burial security.

    C.C.,Your struggles for the liberation of your people ( Wawa) was a fruitiful one.At least, that led to the creation of the present Enugu State,saving the people from the dichotomy that hitherto existed in the old Anambra state.You lived a fulfilled life and was truly a man of his people.You deserved a sound rest from all your many battles in life.Rest in perfect peace.

    the man was a Great man .But why 500 mopol for the event which one is now left for the entire public how many mopol are there in Nigeria? if one occasion takes 500 mopols if 6 events like that takes place in Nigeria simultaneously that means 3000 mopols . What of the common man

    Deploying five hundred armed policemen is quite okay but the termed armed should be properly defined which should mean confirm guns and disciplined usage. They should exclude women police

    My condelence txt to the Ikemba for the lost of CC ONOH his father in law.Pls the police is not even a grantee, yesterday news had it in DBS tv warri that a police office was caught in pastors house with gun stealing in warri baptise church so we are even afraid of the POs as they may be aiding kidnappers in south east

    May his soul rest in peace. I can assure you there are no logistical arrangements for the 500 or more mopols. No accomodation, no food, no water, no toilets, no transport, just guns.
