BENIN CITY — THE leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPF), Alhaji Asari Dokubo, says peace may not come soon in the Niger Delta unless the convocation of a sovereign National Conference by the Federal Government.
He said President Musa Yar’Adua is worsening the crisis in the country with what he described as his “lop sided appointments”, adding that “ what we have today is not a nation but a mere geo-graphical expression which came about due to the mistake of 1914”.
Alhaji Dokubo, who spoke to newsmen in Benin City, when he accompanied Governor Adams Oshiomohle, to inspect some on-going projects in Benin City, admonished the government to shun the proposed amnesty for militants which he described as illegal and unconstitutional and face reality, which according to him was the “convocation of sovereign National Conference, not just for the Niger Delta but for the entire country.
“Where all of us will sit down and discuss and it is only those who does not want peace that will kick against it.
Look at Yar’Adua’s appointments and key positions, they are all given to the North.
All key positions are given to the North and these are the people who benefited from the evil committed in 1914” he asserted. On the amnesty to militants, the NDPF, leader said “ it is unconstitutional.
It does not have any legal authority to grant amnesty or pardon any body who has not been convicted in a country law.
There is no law in Nigeria that talk about amnesty for some one who has not been convicted. A man iis presumed militant until convicted in a court of law. So who are you giving amnesty now?
“Or are you giving amnesty to people who have killed or kidnappers. You are only encouraging criminality. As for Tompolo, he is not a militant but a freedom fighter.
I know him, I can vow for him so no body should call Tompolo a militant and he does not need the amnesty because he has not committed any offence” he stated.

we are pleading, asking and praying for the mentally deranged, mad leadership on the part of the Niger delta governors..to wake up and face reality…they said once bitten twice shy!!!!when will you guys be responsible..do they say on earth that Niger delta governors should not be responsible and take responsibility of their people…see what the northern governors are doing….
“Look at Yar’Adua’s appointments and key positions, they are all given to the North.
All key positions are given to the North and these are the people who benefited from the evil committed in 1914”
Yes Asari I want to agree with you in this regards but the few you people got what did you do with it.
We know you were very close to Fmr Gov. Odili before you fell out what impact did you make to the common people.
You were very close to immediate past MD of NDDC Timi Alaibe what did you do.
Why are all your former boys complaining about you.
I dont think you have any moral right to talk as some of us know so much about your person.
As a leader who do you consult with before you make statements as you do.
Are you sure the Ijaw people are behind you?
MR. PRESIDENT YOU ARE NOT LISTENING. YOU SHOULD USE NIGER DELTA MONEY TO DEVELOPE THE NIGER DELTA IMMEDIATELY. ABUJA AND ENVIRONS WERE RAPIDLY DEVELOPED WITH THE MONEY FROM THE NIGER DELTA. THE SAME INTEREST AND SPEED THAT WAS USED TO DEVELOPE ABUJA SHOULD BE USED TO DEVELOPE THE NIGER DELTA. THIS WILL BE A WIN WIN FOR NIGERIA. THE CRISES WILL STOP, INVESTMENTS WILL RUSH IN, THE YOUTHS WILL BE GAINFULLY EMPLOYED, NIGERIA WILL MAXIMISE HER CRUDE OIL AND GAS PRODUCTIONS,TOURISM WILL FLORISH, NIGERIAN INTELLECTUALS AND BUSINESS PEOPLE ABROAD WILL COME BACK TO NIGERIA AND CREATE A LOT OF JOBS. AS LITTLE AS 100,000.00 (ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND) POUNDS COULD ESTABLISH A SMALL COTTAGE INDUSTRY OF A SMALL FARM AND ABOUT SIX WELL PAID JOBS CAN BE CREATED. BY SIMPLE CALCULATION, ABOUT ONE MILLION NIGERIANS ABROAD CAN RAISE THIS TYPE OF MONEY. THAT IS ABOUT SIX MILLION NEW JOBS. MR. PRESIDENT LISTEN! LISTEN!! LISTEN!!! LISTEN!!!. TIME IS NOT ON OUR SIDE AND YOUR SIDE MAKE HASTE NOW!!!!!
FG/Executive branch is most corrupt, ineffective and inefficient in Nigeria. We don’t have democracy yet. MEND should put more pressure on the oil companies. This is rainy season, MEND, you have the advantage now. Keep blasting the pipelines. Corrupt Northern/Military/Arewa collude with multinationals to destroyed our communities and killed our people in so many villages and communities. Why is FG restricting press movement in ND? Only SNC. Why are they afraid to oepn political discussion? We are tired of being talked down. rtd Gen IBM Haruna (Arewa) and Frank Nwekes can’t silence ND people. We will bunker crude oil and sell to foreign oil merchants in Iceland any time to purchase more arms. Nigeria military is used to oppress fellow citizens. Our FG is incompetent and run by public relations professionals to tell the public lies while they loot our treasury. MEND, don’t buy this bogus amnesty. Hang on to ur weapons. What next when Oct 4th come and pass? Asari is telling the truth. All ND governors are passive agents of the oppressors – FG/PDP, selfish and dumb. For example, RSG Min of Transp agents terrorizes good citizens (drivers) on the congested roads on fake staged traffic offences without due process thru the courts. Unnecessary vehicle impound, psychiatric test, inflated fines, bribes by Ikwerre boys (Ameachi job creation). Most RS roads have no signs. There is nowhere in the South where u will find road signs indicating North/South/West/East – Right/Left Turn Only directional signs. Yet, RSG has unleased ikwerre thugs on responsible drivers in PH. Why, Gov Ameachi? Just look at life in the whole South during the rainy season. Miserable! Dirty and poor environmental law enforcement. Most people do the frog jumping style to reach their destination cos of pool of dirt stinky pool of water, some of them are pretty deep fish ponds. ND people have experienced more military brutality that any Nigerian since the civil war. We have a lot to discuss at the SNC. Why are the Northerners uncomfortable to open debate or discussion? this is 2009 and nothing is working in Nigeria, its a failed state. MEND don’t relent. Ijaw leaders should watch what they say in public. Allow MEND to handle the media with press releases.
The Niger Delta issue can only be solved, if the Federal Government, should come clean and address the followings. The federal government should immediately develope the Niger Delta, with the same speed and zeal they used in developing Abuja and sorroundings. It was money made from the Niger Delta, that was used to develope Abuja. Wht can they not use, Niger Delta money to develope Niger Delta? Amnesty is given to offenders and criminals. Niger Deltans are not criminals as such we do not want amnesty. What we want is fairness and fair play and do to The Niger Delta what you want others to do to you. WHY CAN’T THEY GET IT!
Why can’t they see and do the followings
1. The International Multi National companies in the Niger Delta. These companies operate as cow boys and with reckless abandon, They have destroyed the environment, the waters, the lands of the Niger Delta. They polluted the waters, lands and the environment and as a result, the people can not farm on their lands or fish in their waters, which is their main occupations. The people are dieing dailly of diseases, caused by the polution to the environment. These multi nationals build cheap infrastrutures like pipe lines etc., without regards to internationally accepted norms and good practices. There will never do such things in other parts of the world, where they are operating, otherwise they will pay very dearly for such horrible practices. The multi Nationals have made a lot of money from these sharp practices, at the expence of the lives of the people of the Niger Delta.
2. The next offenders are federal and state governments of all shades, both past and present, who have made lot of money by ignoring and encouraging with nods, the multi National companies to get away with murder. .
3. The third group are the so called selfish leaders, or do i say dealears of the Niger Delta, who have also made a lot of money from the sufferings of the people of The Niger Delta, Some of the them and their collaborators, sponsor the criminals, to forment and cause lost of sufferings to the people of the Niger Delta.
4. The President must without futher delay, publish the names of those, who have been sponsoring these criminals in the Niger Delta. The President must name and shame them.
Now that you have given amnesty, to the genuine agitators, we should now have a truth and reconcilliation commitee, so that we can learn a lesson from all these.
WHAT THE PRESIDENT SHOULD DO NOW!!
The federal government should introduce, a wind fall tax on the huge profits, the multi nationals made over the period and use ALL the money for the IMMEDIATE developement of the Niger Delta and the ecconomic empowerment of the people of the Niger Delta. This is what is done, even in developed countries. In Great Britain, when the Labour came into power, they introdued the wind fall tax, inorder to claw back some of the huge profits, the companies made, when the Conservative party in government, sold very cheaply all government companies during the Privatization process. ALL the money realised was used to creat new jobs and train the unemployed. This move was very popular with the British public. You should bear in mind that, most of the companies, that made the huge profits in The Niger Delta, are British and American companies. This move will be popular in Nigeria and these British and American companies will not fault it. All you have to do is, to refer them to what happened in the United kingdom.
ALL the money realised from the excess crude, which was got any way, from the Niger Delta, should be used for the immediate ecconomic development and empowerment of the people of the Niger Delta.
The federal government should draw down now, 30% of its external revenue for the immediate ecconomic developement of the Niger Delta and ecconomic empowerment of the people of the Niger Delta. The ferderal government should not give the usual excuse, that this draw down will affect the value of the naira, as this is a price that, we should pay for the peace and stability of the Niger Delta and Nigeria. ALL THESE MUST BE DONE NOW!! Mr. President do all these and you have solved the problems in The Niger Delta permanently. If you do ALL of these history and prosterity will remember you very kindly. The Federal government continue to hit their head on the brick wall and talk of amnesty as diversion if they do not address the real issues NO DEAL!!!

HackLord says:
July 3, 2009 at 7:13 pmThere is no ‘ONE NIGERIA’, what we have is an Arewa Republic in disguise. The masses are calling for change and that change can only come when we go our separate ways. The Northerners can do the intelligent thing now by convening a sovereign national conference. However we all know they are not intelligent because all they have achieved in 48 yrs is to plunge Nigeria into topsy-turvyness. Furthermore their stupidity is made even more glaring by their belief that they can control the resources of other regions. They are just postponing the evil day when every region will go their separate ways. Then they will know that there is no powerful country in the world today that is Landlocked. When Oduduwa, Biafra and Niger Delta Republics separate from this scam called Nigeria, the unintelligent North will know how terrible it is for a country to be landlocked. The day is coming when the North will beg other regions to survive. That day is very close and if the North is intelligent they would make peace by convening a SNC now before it is too late. “Pride comes before a crash”

They have fooled a lot of people and made them believe they really ready to develop the Niger Delta. They want to fool people to stop the militant struggle thereby emasculating us. However the lies of the government are too glaring and they should never ever be trusted. I thought the president said the amnesty is unconditional (http://in.reuters.com/article/oilRpt/idINL328607820090703
). Do you call the president’s statement a lie or what? Anyone who believes in this scam called Nigeria is either foolish, benefits from the government or is an agent of the criminal government. We forget too soon.
