In a country where the leaders manipulate at will the instruments on law enforcement to their advantage, killing and maiming their opponents at will, what do you think will happen when they recruit their own "boys" in the name of "state police. In addition, with all the militancy and calls for seccessation, no right thinking president who intends to keep the country one for whatever seflish interest will ever allow for state police. Don't be deceived, some people still remember the popular "police action". My take is that we need to find a solution to our insecurity problems right inside the present structure. There has been a genuine demand for states to have their police and the federal government can back them up with outfits in the shape of the American CIA and FBI. I believe that crime can be better fought if men and women from a given area are given the responsibility of fighting crime in that area. They can seek help from a smaller but well equipped federal police if there is any need.The Nigeria police is a political organization for the government and party in power. They are not interested in fighting crime. It is a trade. Extort and steal as much as you can from Nigerians. Corruption and unemployment are the main causes including the 'Get Rich Quick Syndrom' of our youths and politicians. I have said this before that , unless jobs and re-orentation of our values change, these crimes will continue to flourish in our society.
