Warri—NATIONAL Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) yesterday debunked claims of any crisis in its Warri zonal delegates conference taking place today in Warri, Delta State.
According to the union, the issue of imposition of candidates does not arise because NUPENG’s elections are always transparent.
Vice President of NUPENG in-charge of the zone, Comrade Williams Akporegha, told Vanguard that any claims of crisis or imposition was being conjured by disgruntled people who are afraid that their candidates may not win and were, therefore, looking for an excuse for their failure.
According to him, every authentic member of NUPENG knows the processes of selecting delegates and conducting election.
He said “NUPENG elections are done transparently, delegates vote openly and the results announced openly.â€
Comrade Akporegha added: “ There is no crisis and there is no tension. Like you are aware, in an election, there are many candidates seeking various positions, because of that, a lot of people come with different strategies and tactics to woo delegates.
“These are all parts of the gimmicks to woo delegates to vote for them. I am assuring everybody that there is no cause for alarm. No problem. Normal process in conducting election in accordance to NUPENG constitution is being strictly followed.
“When there is genuine complaints, we do not sweep anything under the carpet because we are one family united by our slogan, injury to one, injury to all. So, be rest assured that all is well.â€
It would be recalled that some aggrieved members in a statement earlier in the week alleged an attempt by a national officer of the union to impose a candidate on the zone in the union’s election holding today.
