WARRIâ€”MOVEMENT for Emancipation of the Niger-Delta (MEND) has alerted the Amnesty International,Human Rights Watch, International Court of Justice, former United States President, Jimmy Carter and US Senator,Â Russ FeingoldÂ of alleged extra-judical killings carried out by the Joint Task Force (JTF) on the Niger-Delta, urging for an investigation by the United Nations.Video clips of the alleged extra-judicial killing are on an internet portal, www. youtube.com.
In a letter, entitled, â€œExtra-judicial killing caught on tape,Â signed by its spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, the group said, â€œyou must have seen the tape of a callous extra-judicial killing on two brothers recently in the Niger Delta.
This practice is done with impunity and denied by the Nigerian army and governmentâ€, adding,â€no day passes without an incident such as what you have witnessed.
â€œThe wanton destruction of property and indiscriminate bombing of civilians by the ill-trained military can best be left to your imagination.
â€œIt is in the midst of this brutality that oil majors conduct their business. This is the real definition of blood oil which the world must condemn.
â€œWe are calling on the the United Nations and the International community to investigate this war crime and bring the perpetrators to justiceâ€, he said.
â€œWe want an international commission headed by the UN to conduct an investigation into the war crimes against our people by the Nigerian state.
