The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on President Umaru Yar’Adua to direct all relevant agencies like the Ministry of Works and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to undertake repairs of all federal roads in Lagos State especially the Apapa-Oshodi expressway because of its economic importance.
Calling the attention of the House to the poor state of federal roads in Lagos, under matters of urgent public importance, Sanai Agunbiade observed that the bad shape of the roads caused heavy traffic with the attendant toll on the human and economic well-being of Lagos nay Nigeria.
According to Agunbiade, “a lot of valuable time is lost everyday to traffic jams all over the state due to bad roads. It also provides an avenue for undesirable elements to rob and maim law-abiding citizens.â€
In his contribution, Moshood Oshun urged Governor Babatunde Fashola to direct the Ministry of Works to fix the roads in the interest of Lagosians and not wait for the Federal Government.
In his submission, Majority Leader, Kolawole Taiwo, said the major reason the roads became unmotorable was due to the lack of drainages and the fact that they are below sea level.
The Assembly Speaker, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, on his part called on Fashola to mobilise all relevant agencies to give immediate attention to the Apapa-Oshodi expressway.
