IN their effort to salvage the Nigerian economy, the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A of the Nigerian Custom Service had made seizures of 15,000 pieces of Nigerian, American and phonographic films.
Area comptroller of the unit, Mr. Musa Tahir told journalists that the service was committed to sanitise and curb the menace of smugglers, counterfeiting and piracy in the country, adding that the command has recorded 62 seizures of other items with duty paid value of about N226 million.
The seized goods include textile materials, second handed cloths, shoes, children wears, ladies bags and braziers, rice, frozen turkey, among other items for which he disclosed that eleven suspects were arrested and awaiting prosecution. In addition, the command intercepted 18 vehicles from the smugglers.
Musa said the pirated films will be destroyed even as he urged all Nigerians to be part of the effort to save the nation’s economy.
