By Dennis Agbo
ABAKALIKI—LOCAL government councils in Ebionyi state have expressed worry, over the huge deductions from their monthly federal allocations, which they say is affecting their priority projects and making it difficult for them to fulfil their electoral promises to the people of their councils.
The deductions, the councils said include that for payment of salaries for primary school teachers among other miscellaneous deductions, the lament comes often than they expect.
But the Chairman of Ezza-North Local Government Area, Mr. Ikeuwa Omabe said that a special committee had been set up to overhaul the mandatory deductions from their allocations in order to ascertain the accuracy of the deductions and the judicious application of such funds.
Omabe stated that the committee made up of representatives from the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria (ALGON), Ebonyi State Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) and the Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Matters was mandated to overhaul the deductions from councils funds for the purpose of payment of primary school teachers.
