ABUJA— Henceforth, serving judges indicted by the National Judicial Council (NJC) of corruption will not only be sacked from the bench but shall be handed over to either the EFCC or the ICPC for investigation and prosecution, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, yesterday, disclosed.
Kutigi who spoke in Abuja yesterday also described as embarrassing the granting of bail by judges to accused persons on scandalous conditions when there is code of conduct for judicial officers even as he advised judges to eschew grant of exparte injunctions capable of tarnishing the image of the judiciary.
The occasion was the opening of a two-week Induction Course for newly appointed Judges and Kadis organised by the National Judicial Institute (NJI).
Speaking at the occasion yesterday, Justice Kutigi said that the National Judicial Council is watching the conduct of judicial officers, saying that any erring judicial officer would be shown the way out.
His words: “As you are aware, the society expects much from the judiciary and as Judicial Officers, you are expected to live above board like Caesar’s wife.
