Ilorin-The animosity between two families over land dispute in Nimgurumi town in Baruten local government area of the state has led to the death of six out of the ten members of a family after consuming bowls of cassava flour popularly called ‘Amala‘ suspected to have been poisoned by the rival family on Monday night
The other four members of the family were however said to be responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the area.
The mother of the victims according to Vanguard findings was said to have been spreading the cassava flour on the bare floor in the process of drying it to make it suitable for pounding but unknown to her that it has been allegedly poisoned in the process of drying it before it was consumed Monday night.
Vanguard learnt that tragedy struck in the night after the family have consumed bowls the prepared ”Amala” for dinner and they started developing stomach complications one after the other and died before they could be rushed to the hospital for attention.
Commissioner for Health Mrs Ayinke Saka while briefing journalists yesterday over the development confirmed that the feud between the two families over land might have led to the suspected cassava flour poisoning.
Ayinke said the incident has been reported at the state police headquarters for investigations.
She however warned residents in the state to desisit from exposing their food items so as to discourage this kind of untoward development.
When contacted, the state police command through its spokesman , Mr. Dabo Ezekiel confirmed the incident and assured that the detail report on the incident will will be made available to the public by the command.
