ABEOKUTA—The Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, in exercise of the power conferred on him by the constitution has approved the remission of sentences of 13 prisoners in commemoration of the 2010 New Year day celebration.
The 13 convicted prisoners who benefitted from the order of remission of sentences signed by the Governor and were ordered to be released from prison are Saheed Oyero, Abiodun Taye, Peter Effiche, Sina Balogun, Godspower Ojegba, Jimoh Adewale, Gilbert Ganyisode, Jean Adjayi, Abubakar Usman, Peter Igwe,, Kolawole Adeogun, Alaba Soneye and Jimoh Momodu.
The prisoners who were sentenced to a period of imprisonment of three years and above have only six months to complete their sentences before they were freed by the Governor after consultation with the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy and in exercise of his power under subsection 1 of section 22 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
